GRA to shut down Accra Mall over GHC2m tax default

Officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority have stormed the premises of the Accra Mall to shut down the facility over some 2.3million tax owed the state.

Addressing journalists at the frontage of the mall Wednesday, the Chief Revenue Officer leading the taskforce Wisdom Kofi Heto said the GRA notified the management of the mall since September of their indebtedness to the state but they have refused to make payment.

Kasapa FM’s Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman who is following the GRA team reports from the scene that management of the mall is currently in a crunch meeting over the development and are likely to issue out cheques to defray the debt.

The Accra Mall is a shopping center in Accra, Ghana, located on the Spintex road adjacent to the Tema Motorway. The mall was commissioned on July 4, 2008. It is one of the most modern shopping malls in West Africa and the first large-scale shopping centre in Ghana. It is owned by Atterbury Property Development, Sanlam and the Morladza family.
