Blame Mensah Otabil for the collapse of Capital Bank - Kwaku Boahen

The Deputy National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kwaku Boahen has taken a swipe at the founder of the IGCG church, Pastor Mensah Otabil accusing him of the collapse of Capital Bank.

Kweku Boahen in an interview on Agoo TV's morning show “Nkyeremu” explained that the fall of Capital Bank must be blamed on the negligence of Mensah Otabil who failed to perform his duties as the Board Chairman of the bank.
“He must be held responsible because he is the Chairman.”

“You need good leaders to supervise an institution and always not depend on  spiritual matters because the Board Chairman is a pastor and he says we should pray and hope that things get better.”

His accusation against the ICGC founder comes after the Bank of Ghana announced that, it has approved a Purchase and Assumption transaction which allows deposits and selected assets of UT Bank and Capital Bank to be transferred to GCB .
According to Kweku Boahen, Mensah Otabil should have been aware that in the financial sector, issues of spirituality does not help in improvement of the financial services and therefore raised questioned about his level of expertise in the banking sector.

“ Is he(Mensah Otabil) a chartered accountant or an economist. I am therefore not surprised that this economy is not progressing because the Finance Minister has said that he seeks advise from him on matters relating to the economy”
Meanwhile Kwaku Boahen also revealed that the previous government under John Mahama also saw this problem and prompted the affected banks to act quickly in order to avoid this unfortunate situation.
