COCOBOD CEO now NPP propagandist - NDC MP

The Transport Committee of Parliament will soon summon the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo, over the cancellation and suspension of cocoa road contracts awarded by the previous government.

Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza, said the invitation has become critical over the devastating effects of the cancellation of the contracts on the cocoa sector based on what he described as the propaganda war being waged by the COCOBOD CEO vis-à-vis road contracts awarded during the Mahama administration.

According to the Ranking Member on the Roads Committee, cocoa has been the main backbone of the Ghanaian economy over the years, therefore, there was the need to institute measures to deal with the bottlenecks that threaten the growth of the cocoa sector.

Mr Agbodza told Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 28 November that since the Akufo-Addo government came into office, several contracts in the road sector awarded by the John Mahama administration have been cancelled on the back of “cooked reports that indicated that the costs were inflated.”

“The COCOBOD CEO must produce the kind of research findings they carried out to determine that those contracts were inflated.

“They have come out with some cooked document and releasing it to the pro-NPP media to paint the previous administration black to the effect that the contracts were inflated.”

He added: “The COCOBOD does not have a credible institution that carries out research of this kind to ascertain that contracts were inflated.”

“We want to summon the Road Minister and the COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer to Parliament to respond to Members of Parliament on these things because cocoa and the roads are interlinked.

“Cocoa has been the backbone of Ghana over the years but the way and manner this administration is behaving at the COCOBOD is not good at all for the country.

“Total disregard for the progress and the development of our country, so, some of us are calling for an urgent encounter with the COCOBOD CEO who has now turned into a propaganda secretary of the NPP, and the Road Minister because we can’t continue like this.

On the back of allegations that some road contracts were inflated for which those contracts have been cancelled. This is especially so when the current COCOBOD has produced a cooked document.”
