Nana Fires NSA Board Chair Over Visa Fraud

Yet another official has been affected by investigations into the visa scandal that bedeviled the just-ended Commonwealth Games in Australia.

This time around, it was the Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, who has been relieved of his duties.

It comes on the heels of a similar suspension of the Deputy Minister for Youth & Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, and the Director General of the NSA, Robert Sarfo Mensah, sometime last week.

The decision was communicated to the board chair by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday in the absence of President Akufo-Addo, who is attending the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London, United Kingdom.

A statement from the Presidency and signed by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, said, “Just as in the cases of the suspension of the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, and the acting Director General of the National Sports Authority, Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah, the decision to suspend Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has been taken following preliminary investigations conducted into the circumstances that led to the arrest of some 60 Ghanaians who had allegedly attempted to enter Australia by false pretences at the 21st Commonwealth Games.”

The three officials, together with the President of the Ghana Olympic

Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, and the Chef-de-Maison for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Mohammed Sahnoon, have been asked to assist the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in the ongoing investigations into the matter.
