Maidens Arrival: Coach Evans Adotey apologizes to goalkeeper Grace Banwa Boadu.

The Black Maidens team who got exited from the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Uruguay arrived in Ghana yesterday with full contingents  including the playing body  and the technical team with heads high despite not been able to lift the trophy.

Ghana was placed in group B with the host nation Uruguay, New Zealand and Finland which Ghana sailed through to the quarter finals after thrashing Uruguay 5-0 then beat Finland 3-1 and wrapped up with 2-0 win over New Zealand in the group phase. Ghana met Mexico in the quarter finals where they drew 2-2 after 90 minutes of the stipulated of football before losing 2-4 on penalties.

One major talking point after the game was the coach of Black Maidens Evans Adotey shifting blames to the young goalkeeper Grace Banwa Boadu for an error she made prior to Mexico’s equalizer which sent the game to penalty shootout eventually substituting Grace for another goalkeeper.
Upon their arrival Coach Evans Adotey apologized to the young goalkeeper and attributed his reactions to being hurt and frustrated after a painful defeat.

“Grace Banwa was my number one choice right from the qualification and I decided to replace her in the penalty shootout because the girl I brought in was good with penalties, I was totally off after the game and trust me I was not myself. A journalist prompted me that my post-match interview was bad so I later apologized to the girl” he stated .

Ghana’s only hope now is Mukarama Abdulai who awaits the goal queen award with 7 goals despite Claudia Pina of Spain with 5 goals with the finals left to be played between Spain and Mexico.
