As Ghana aimed at fighting poor sanitation across the country, government has therefore charged the newly assembly members to apply it bylaws to enforce compliance in sanitation management and environmental health standards to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
The minister for justice and attorney general, Hon. Gloria Akufo, who read a speech on behalf of the president of the republic, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo, at the inaugural ceremony of the newly assembly members at the Kpone Katamanso Municipality indicated that, section 12’3 of the local governance act 2016 act 936 specifies that, assemblies shall be responsible for the development, improvement and management of human settlement and the environment in the districts.
“It is the assembly’s responsibility to make bylaws to address issues of waste management, licencing, monitoring environmental service providers and many other matters that demand local regulations in order to achieve and maintain a clean and healthy environment” the minister noted.
The attorney general, again charged the assembly members to work close with the assembly to ensure compliance with the building rules and regulations on zoning and development of lands to ensure that lands are developed according to approved plans and designated land use to avoid flooding and its accompanied lost of lives and properties.
The greater Accra regional minister, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey who aslo represented the president at the Tema west municipality, urged the assembly members to propagate government policies which seeks to develop the local level and eradicate poverty to transform the lives of the rural people across the country.
The Tema west MCE, Hon. Nana Adwoa Amoako urged the assembly members to focus and deliver on the mandate the people have entrusted in them, whiles the Kpone Katamanso MCE, Hon. Solomon Tetteh Appiah also charged the assembly members to burry their political difference to foster development to the people.
