Assembly, unit c’ttee polls slated for Dec. 17

Tuesday, 17 December 2019 has been scheduled by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana for the District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections.

Candidates for the District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections are expected to pick nomination forms from Thursday, 3 October to Saturday, 5 October 2019 at the designated district Offices.

Filing of nominations is expected to begin on Monday, 7 October to Friday, 11 October 2019.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 2 October 2019 and signed by EC Chair Jean Mensa, the election management body said: “The Electoral Commission wishes to announce for the information of the general public that the District Assemblies and Unit Committee Elections will be held on Tuesday, 17 December 2019. Accordingly, the Commission is accepting the nomination from prospective candidates for election as members of the District Assemblies and Unit Committees Elections.

“The nomination will be received in all electoral areas in each district from Monday, 7 to Friday, 11 October 2019 between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm; and 2 pm to 5 pm each day,” the statement said.

The statement continued: “There will be no payment of filing fees. All completed nomination forms are expected to be completed and delivered”.

It further added that: “A registered voter shall not propose, second or witness the nomination of more than one person. We urge the public to be guided accordingly.”
